How Much Does Free Cost?

Recently, our staff went to Gateway Conference - which, as always, was incredible. Gateway thinks of EVERYTHING. Free snacks, Free coffee.. ya know, alllll the necessities.

Manny & I were getting a cup of their “Free coffee” and started talking about how cool it is that they offer this free coffee, especially since it is right next to their super cute coffee shop which, of course, the coffee there isn’t free. Then it hit me - the free coffee isn’t free. Someone had to pay for it. Someone paid a price for that coffee…. and just because it’s free to me, doesn’t mean it was free for them.

I love the way God speaks through the simplest things… like a cup of coffee at a conference. He meets us right where we are, so we can be closer to Him. The grace that covers every fear, sin, sickness, and hurt…. that wasn’t free. Jesus paid for it. Sometimes we get in this habit of “disposable grace” - we treat it like it’s free so we can always get more. While it’s true that you don’t have to do anything to earn it, He did. Treat it like it’s very expensive… because it was.

Just like Gateway’s coffee… the grace Jesus died for is unlimited, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t cost and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

1 Corinthians 6:20
“For you were bought with a price. So glorify God with your body.”

You were EXPENSIVE. Jesus paid more for us than anyone has ever paid for anything. He literally gave it ALL for you, and for me. Let us remember this in every action, not so we become self righteous thinking that we deserved it, but so we remember that we didn’t and He still paid it all anyway. Let us remember who we are representing.

May we breathe like Jesus paid for that very breath, because He did.
May we dance like Jesus paid for that very joy, because He did.
May we love others like Jesus paid for them, too….because He did.

Walk in freedom & love people this week -
